The 2015-2016 Fall/Winter TV season doesn't start for a few more weeks, but pilot episodes of some the year's most anticipated shows have already made their way online thanks to pirates.
Variety is reporting that the inaugural episodes of Fox's 'Minority Report' and 'Lucifer' along with NBC's 'Blindspot' and 'The Carmichael Show' started appearing on popular file sharing and peer-to-peer download sites yesterday.
Variety's article cites data from analytics firm Excipio, which shows that Lucifer has already logged 212,237 downloads as of August 10 5:15 PM ET. Minority Report, arguably the most recognizable name on this list has tallied 163,946.
The show is set in the same universe as director Steven Spielberg's 2002 film which was in turn adapted from Sci-Fi author Philip K. Dick's novel. The series takes place 10 years after the events of the film, and follows a new set of characters. Here's an excerpt from the show's official synopsis:
Set in Washington, D.C., it is 10 years after the demise of Precrime, a law enforcement agency tasked with identifying and eliminating criminals...before their crimes were committed. To carry out this brand of justice, the agency used three precogs - "precognitives" Dash, Arthur and Agatha - who were able to see the future. Now, in 2065, crime-solving is different, and justice leans more on sophisticated and trusted technology than on the instincts of the precogs.
Lucifer on the otherhand, is based on the character's made famous by Neil Gaman's DC Comics story:
Based upon the characters created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg for DC Entertainment's Vertigo imprint, LUCIFER is the story of the original fallen angel. Bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, LUCIFER MORNINGSTAR (Tom Ellis, "Merlin") has abandoned his throne and retired to L.A., where he owns Lux, an upscale nightclub
Minority Report is set to air on September 21, while Lucifer is coming in 2016.
