At the beginning of last night's episode of Monday Night Raw, the entire WWE roster took the stage to pay tribute to legendary wrestler Rowdy Roddy Piper, who passed away last July 31 at the age of 61 due to cardiac arrest.
The ceremony began with a customary 'ten bell salute' as the ring bell was tolled 10 times. Afterwards, a touching video montage played on the Titan Tron, showcasing highlights from Piper's illustrious 30 year career. On social media, various wrestling personalities paid their respects to the Hot Rod.

Piper was hailed as one of the best 'heels' (an industry term for villain) in pro wrestling history. His highly publicized feuds with fellow wrestling icons like Jimmy Snuka and Hulk Holgan helped ignite the then-WWF during the 80's. Piper together with Paul Orndoff, headlined the very first Wrestlemania where they lost to Hogan and actor Mr. T in the main event.
Piper was perhaps most famous for his in-ring talk show segment called 'Piper's Pit.' The pit was the perfect showcase for his brash persona and irresistible charisma. He would later parlay those talents into a moderately successful film career.
His influence was also felt outside the ring as well. It was Piper who anointed popular mixed martial artist Ronda Rousey with the 'Rowdy' nickname. The UFC Bantamweight champion dedicated her recent win against Bethe Correia to him.
