Yahoo has revealed its new chat service which the company claims to be different from the rest. The new app called LiveText has the traditional text messaging feature and includes a silent video feed for the two people chatting.
The new app allows two people to see each other in real life and text without talking. The company explains that LiveText is designed for quick sessions allowing the users to see the emotions of the person on the other side. Eliminating the audio makes it fit to use anytime, anywhere.
The silent video can be used in any situation because it is less distracting. The primary purpose of the feature is to convey the person's emotion while chatting. The video during the conversation will not be saved on the user's phone or on Yahoo.
Yahoo's senior director of product management and the head of the LiveText project Arjun Sethi states that, "It's a new way to communicate: casual text on top of video."
The tech company aims to develop products and services that are simple and easy to use. Yahoo claims that LiveText is non-intrusive and real-time which enables live interactions between the two communicating individuals. The free app is available for Android and iOS supported devices. It is somehow similar to Snapchat, Skype and Facetime.
The company has now made the free app available in the Google Play Store and App Store for people in the US, Canada, UK, Germany and France. Yahoo will also release the app globally starting in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Ireland.
The mobile services of the company has contributed a lot to its revenue in almost nine years. Last week the company's revenue increased by 15% to $1.24 billion. The new LiveTetxt is another opportunity for the company to expand since the app can be monetized though paid contents and ads.
