After the upcoming James Bond film 'Spectre' released it's highly anticipated trailer last week, attention has now shifted to another pressing concern regarding the film: who will sing the theme song? Over its 50 year history, the Bond franchise has enlisted some of the biggest names in music to perform the title track. Whoever gets the nod for 'Spectre' will be joining an exclusive club of artists that includes the likes of Paul McCartney, Madonna, and Shirley Bassey. Adele, the latest entrant into the group, won both an Oscar and Grammy for her work in 2013's Skyfall.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, bookmakers have pegged British crooner Sam Smith to bag the job. THR, notes that like Adele, Smith has experienced great success both stateside and in Britain, which could be a key factor for such a global movie franchise. His pop-soul sound also casts a wide net and should attract listeners of all ages to movie. He's currently the one to beat at 2/5 odds.
Coming in second is another British pop superstar, Ed Sheeran at 8/1. At first glance, his scruffy, nice guy image seems an odd fit for Bond's high stakes world of global intrigue and espionage. However his chart topping success may be the deciding factor.
Currently third according to bookmaker odds, Ellie Goulding may already have the recording wrapped up. Though she sits behind Smith and Sheeran at 10/1 odds, it's her name that has been popping up the most when talk of the Bond theme song is brought up. Earlier this month, Goulding tweeted out 'Live and Let Die' which many fans interpreted as a reference to the Bond film of the same name. In addition, she just posted an image of herself at London's famous Abbey Road Studios with the caption: 'It's a Wrap.' Could Goulding have just finished recording Spectre's theme? We'll have to wait and see.
