Will Ed Sheeran Star in TV Drama 'The Bastard Executioner'?

Acoustic singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, who's best known for his chart-topping track 'Thinking Out Loud', is seems to be dabbling into acting as he secured a role on the new US TV drama series, 'The Bastard Executioner', according to reports.

The 24-year old ginger-haired musician will be joining the show, which tells a story of a man from King Edward I's army who will become a journeyman executioner.

'The Bastard Executioner' was filmed in Wales, United Kingdom and produced by Kurt Sutter, who also co-produced the hit American drama TV series 'Sons of Anarchy.'

Besides Ed Sheeran, other main stars of the series include Lee Jones, Brian F. O'Byrne, True Blood's Stephen Moyer, Flora Spencer-Longhurts and Kyle Rees.

Sutter's wife Katey Sagal will also appear in the series as she also previously starred in 'Sons of Anarchy'.

As for the role, reports say that Sheeran will be portraying the character of 'Sir Cormac', who's described in the series as an 'ambitious and a deadly protege of a high-ranking church elder'.

Prior to Sheeran securing a role for the new series, he and producer Sutter had previously collaborated during the making of 'Sons of Anarchy' where he recorded the music for the series.

The singer-songwriter had also previously admitted that he was a huge fan of the show. While Sheeran's career as a solo artist has been going well so far, everyone thinks it might also imply that he's shifting his career plans from being a musician to becoming an actor.

His character in 'The Bastard Executioner' was said to be his second acting role since last year as he also appeared in the US comedy TV series 'Undateable' where he played as himself.

US cable network FX has ordered 10 episodes of the series and the whole cast is currently filming in Pinewood Studios located in Cardiff, Wales.
