Peanut Butter Recall List 2012: Raw and Roasted Peanuts Recalled, Sunland’s List Extended

Portales, New Mexico-based Sunland Inc. once again expanded their list of recalled peanut butter products that was caused by salmonella illnesses spreading to 19 states. The 71 added products do not only include peanut butter and related products, but now also raw and roasted peanuts. The recall list that began with Trader Joe's Valencia Creamy Salted Peanut Butter quickly grew to about one hundred Sunland products and was recently extended to 240 products.

"The extension being announced today is the result of the continued joint investigation by the Company and FDA," the Portales, New Mexico-based Sunland Inc. writes in their announcement. "The Company has ceased the production and distribution of all products from both its Peanut Butter Plant and its Peanut Processing Plant while FDA and the Company continue their investigation."

Sunland's products are sold by major brands such as Target, Whole Foods, Safeway, and others. The recalled packages "are within their current shelf life or had no expiration date". Customers who purchased these products should discard them or return them for a full refund.

To date some 35 salmonella cases in 19 states were confirmed.
