Taylor Swift unfortunately learned the hard way when she made an assumption that Nicki Minaj was calling her out in a rant about MTV’s Video Music Awards nominations.
Once she responded to the rapper, a massive Twitter feud erupted, and spiraled far more out of control than Taylor likely thought. Now, she’s issued an apology.
The 25-year-old admitted she was in the wrong and apologized publicly, tweeting on Thursday: “I thought I was being called out,” she tweeted on July 23. “I missed the point, I misunderstood, then misspoke. I’m sorry, Nicki.”

Nicki Minaj graciously accepted the apology, replying: "That means so much Taylor, thank you."

It was expected for Nicki to take Taylor Swift's apology to heart, because the two famous singers were once friends, and this would definitely be a horrible way for that relationship to be ruined.
The feud started when the VMA nominations were announced on July 21, Nicki’s song “Anaconda” wasn’t among the highly-coveted Video Of The Year contenders.
“If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year,” she tweeted, after a major rant about MTV leaving her out.
Considering Taylor and Beyonce were the only other women nominated in the category, and Taylor's “Bad Blood” video does feature a group of “very slim” women, the 25-year-old made the assumption that Nicki’s comments were directed at her.
Upon reading Nicki's tweet, Taylor replied: “I’ve done nothing but love & support you. It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot..”

The tweet led to massive backlash, with Nicki and her fans pointing out that the rapper’s rant had nothing to do with Taylor, and instead, was a way to criticize the media for not giving credit to black women where it is deserved.
On Wednesday, Nicki clarified her argument on Instagram. She wrote: "Nothing to do with any of the women, but everything to do with a system that doesn't credit black women for their contributions to pop culture as freely/quickly as they reward others."
Taylor tweeted Nicki again, saying: "If I win, please come up with me!! You're invited to any stage I'm ever on." She later deleted this post.
