In what seems to be one of the most random moves in sponsoring fast food in recent times, the second largest chain in the world made headlines after creating a dreamlike affair for a couple with a very special set of surnames, giving them a Burger King wedding.
A few months back, Eater reported that an Illinois couple, Joel Burger and Ashley King, had gotten engaged and were fully aware of the combination their names made, which prompted them to seek the fast food chain for permission to have a Burger King wedding theme - but the inventors of the whopper decided to pay for the whole thing instead!
According to The Mirror, the Burger-King newlyweds have been known by friends with the fast food chain's name since they first became friends when they were only children at 10 years of age, so there was no other way to tie the knot than through a Burger King wedding!
The New York Daily News reports that the Burger King wedding saw the bride and groom wearing the chain's famous paper crowns and posing for pictures, while the groom's guy pals had BK t-shirts under their suits and posed with them during the photo shoot!
"When we heard about the happy Burger-King couple, we felt an overwhelming urge to celebrate their upcoming marriage," said Eric Hirschhorn, a spokesperson for the fast food chain, when discussing the Burger King wedding to the press. "On so many levels, it felt like fate. They found each other and their story found us."
Besides paying for the wedding, Burger King provided guests with $10 gift cards for the chain as well as Mason jars with the company's logo.
According to The Daily Mail, happy couple Joel and Ashley tied the knot at the Annie Merner Chapel on the MacMurray College campus in Jacksonville, Illinois, surrounded with their friends, family, and some delicious burgers.
Ashley has said she'll be taking her husband's name, but in their hearts they'll always be Burger King!
