George Lucas, The Eagles, and Carole King Honored at the 2015 Kennedy Center Honors

Filmmaker George Lucas, singer-songwriter Carole King and the seventies rockers the Eagles, were recognized and will be given an award at the 2015 Kennedy Center Honors. Among the exceptional artists to receive an award are  dancer-actress Rita Moreno, actress Cicely Tyson and conductor Seiji Ozawa.The event will be on December 6, 2015.

David M. Rubenstein, Kennedy Center Chairman, stated that they recognize artists whose "impact and genius" have made a lasting mark to people.

George Lucas the producer and director, has this to sY about his award, "That sobers you up, to realize you're at the point where they're honoring your body of work," George Lucas also added, "It's frightening and daunting to realize you've reached the state of life that these are the honors you get."

The producer and director Lucas, was also given by U.S. President Obama, the 2012 National Medal of Arts.

The members of the Eagles band such as  Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Timothy B. Schmit and Joe Walsh will receive an honor, and in a collective statement, the Eagles said,"We are deeply grateful to have been named a Kennedy Center honoree," and  added, "The members of the Eagles hail from different regions of this great nation, and we feel very fortunate that our music has been embraced by people from all walks of life, all over the world. Popular music is one of America's greatest exports - a bridge that spans geographical and cultural boundaries. We are truly humbled to have been able to be a part of this global connection."

Producers Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss of White Cherry Entertainment (the company behind the Tony Awards) will handle this year's 38th annual event of the 2015 Kennedy Center Honors, usually it would be under George Stevens Jr.

Last year's recipients of Kennedy Center Honors were Sting, Al Green and Tom Hanks, alongside the performances of Bruce Springsteen, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, who entertained the audience with Sting's songs.
