U.S. President Obama Wades Into Sexual Violence Discussion That Surrounds Bill Cosby

On Wednesday, President Obama said that the United States will not tolerate such actions like that of comedian and television star Bill Cosby, who is accused of drugging women for sex. Such act in fact results to nothing less than rape.

When the U.S. president made his comments on the decade-old accusations against Bill Cosby, he made sure that he does not provide a direct comment on the civil legal actions in opposition to Cosby, that have been established by several women in recent years. Obama clarifeid the matter of certain requests of revoking the Presidential Medal of Freedom conferred on Mr. Cosby by President George W. Bush in 2002.

During a long news conference that was supposed to focus on the nuclear deal with Iran, President Obama stated, "There's no precedent for revoking a medal." "We don't have that mechanism." The president added that he made it "a policy not to comment" on cases in which legal action was pending."

However people inside the news conference noticed that when Mr. Obama had paused, he was in fact mindful and suggested that issues that is linked to the one of the world's best-known entertainers, such as Cosby should be taken seriously.

The U.S. president stated, "I'll say this,""If you give a woman or a man, for that matter, without his or her knowledge, a drug, and then have sex with that person without consent, that's rape." Mr. Obama then stressed,"And this country, any civilized country, should have no tolerance for rape."

The executive director of Promoting Awareness Victim Empowerment, Angela Rose, stated that "Allowing Cosby to maintain this coveted symbol suggests that we as a society condone coercive sexual behavior," Rose also said, "This is an unprecedented moment, and we need to show zero tolerance for sexual assault." "Revoking the medal would send a powerful message to America's youth on the critical importance of consent."

Bill Cosby, a 78-year-old comedian, denied all the accusations against him. Mr. Cosby has never been charged nor found guilty with a crime.
