Zurich Restaurant Serves Drug-Infused Meal To Teenager

Many places in Europe are popular for meals mixed with different kinds of marijuana (where it's legal), among some coffee shops or beer houses that include a wide array of cannabis options on their menu.

Just this week, a teenager in Switzerland unexpectedly got a meal laced with cannabis without his knowing.

As the teen dined at Zurich's Kaufleuten Club, the victim was enjoying his "vegetarian dish of pearl barley with mascarpone cheese and Graubünden hemp by chef Pascal Schmutz," as reported by The Daily Meal.

While consuming the meal, the boy felt ill instantly. After being rushed to the hospital, doctors found traces of THC in the youth's bloodstream. THC is the chemical that allows cannabis to have "psychoactive properties."

The boy's angry parent then contacted the restaurant and blamed them for the teenager's side effects from the meal. The restaurant of course denied allegations that the dish was the cause of the boy's high state.

Online tabloid publication The Blick quoted Marc Brechtbühl, a co-owner of Kaufleuten Club saying, "We thought he had perhaps smoked a joint," as per The Local.

But cantonal tests were performed on the pearl barley, which showed that the THC levels in the ingredient were way beyond the permitted amount. The marijuana that was used was not actually for commercial use.

However, Brechtbühl argued that the 0.3 grams of marijuana as per the dish's recipe would not present any health risks on individuals.

Other than the boy who recently fell ill, "other guests who tried the creation experienced no problems," said Marc Brechtbühl. Regardless, the item has already been revoked from the restaurant's menu.

"The cantonal food inspectors" are now investigating the issue. The restaurant has also expressed that it expects to receive a fine for the incident.

Since the occurrence, the Kaufleuten Club now carries a vegetarian alternative of "homemade pasta with truffles and mushrooms" which surely will not have any hallucinogenic properties when consumed.
