Costco Salmon Recall: Salmonella Outbreak In Smoked Fish Follows Peanut Butter Recall

Hundreds of cases of salmonella were reported in the US and Netherlands which resulted in major product recalls. Dutch health authorities have reported that smoked salmon by Dutch company Foppen have been tainted with salmonella bacteria. Foppen's U.S. distributor is Costco, and when Costco learned of the salmonella outbreak that occurred in Netherlands, the U.S. company pulled out all the fish off of the shelves.

The recall was announced on Tuesday, October 2, 2012. U.S. customers who have purchased smoked salmon under the brand of Foppen or Kirkland were urged to return the items.

So far, Costco did not test positive for salmonella tests yet.

Symptoms for salmonella include vomiting, fever, and diarrhea.

Just recently, there was a peanut butter recall due to the increased number of salmonella outbreaks. Over 100 products relating a potential salmonella virus to the factory was cancel.

Let's hope that this is the last of the recall for salmonella.
