Everyone who had their Facebook profile pictures changed using the Rainbow app that the social network provided during the weekend when the marriage for equality has been approved by the Department of Justice in America is in for a shock that might have them regret doing it.
According to statistics that the Conservative Post reported, there were more than 1 million people who participated in changing their Facebook default profile picture using a rainbow filter to show their support for the LGBT community and gay marriage.
The Daily Mail said that it was a move that might not be a good idea for those who changed their profile pictures. Apparently, it was a way that the social media giant to do some psychological test from their users. A scientist from MIT named Cesar Hidalgo has analyzed the who situation and concluded on a statement saying, "The question is, how long will it take for people to change their profile pictures back to normal."
According to experts in both and psychology, by setting up the filter app, the company was able to determine their influence to their users. It was a subtle survey move that not a lot of people even realized. It is not the first time that Facebook did it because back in 2013, they even published a statement regarding doing research about tools in knowing their influence to their users by doing the red equals sign. For those who don't remember it, it was another tool showing support to gay marriage equality.
Although nothing bad could really happen to those who changed their profile pictures, but it's just a way to show that companies could conduct ways of knowing their influence to their market but using their market without them even noticing it. If you're one of those people, then you just participated into another business propaganda and you don't even know it.
