'Supergirl' is one of the most popular superheroes in the DC universe, perhaps due to her connection to Superman. Comic book fans already know that Kara Zor-El is Kal-El's older cousin who was sent to protect him. However, the introduction of her new TV series would mean Supergirl would be reaching out to new fans that aren't aware of her backstory.
Global Television Network has just released a new trailer for the DC series 'Supergirl.' The video finally explains how Kara survived the destruction of Krypton and why she's much younger than her cousin Kal-El.
An excerpt of the synopsis reads as follows:
"Born Kara Zor-El on the doomed planet Krypton, the preteen Kara escaped at the same time as the infant Kal-El, but didn't arrive on Earth until many years later after being lost in the Phantom Zone. Protected and raised by her adopted family, the Danvers, Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex [Chyler Leigh] and learned to hide the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin."
The trailer then moves forward to show Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) living in National City, where she works as an assistant for Cat Grant (Calista Flockheart) of Catco Worldwide Media. After years of hiding her abilities, the 24-year-old finally decides to accept her powers and sets out to be the city's heroine.
'Supergirl' also stars Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, David Harewood as Hank Henshaw and Laura Benanti as Kara's biological mother Alura Zor-El. The trailer also offers a glimpse of Helen Slater and Dean Cain as Kara's adoptive parents Sylvia and Fred Danvers.
Series producer Greg Berlanti has previously spoken about wanting 'Supergirl' to crossover with his other series 'Arrow' and 'The Flash.' However, the plan was immediately shot down by CBS chair Nina Tassler who said "Well, those two shows are on a different network, so I think we'll keep 'Supergirl' to ourselves for awhile."
'Supergirl' will air on CBS on October 26, 2015.
