Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg Donates $5M to Undocumented US College Students

It was announced on Wednesday that Facebook mogul Mark Zuckerberg and wife, Priscilla Chan, gave their donation of $5 million to TheDream.us - a national scholarship fund for undocumented immigrants.

TheDream.US fund aims to create scholarships for more than 400 undocumented students in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Facebook CEO said, even though there are many young immigrants legally attending school in the U.S.A., the stumbling block to a college education and federal aid is lack of documentation.

Don Graham headed the TheDream.us, and Graham is also one of Facebook's board of directors. The 'TheDream.us' campaign "I'm In" has raised at least $35 million, and about three weeks ago, the campaign raised wtwo $15 million donations given by Graham himself and the other from The Pershing Square Foundation.

Facebook CEO and founder Zuckerberg posted on his Facebook page, "America was founded as a nation of immigrants. We ought to welcome smart and hardworking young people from every nation, and to help everyone in our society achieve their full potential." Mark Zuckerberg added," If we help more young immigrants climb the ladder to new opportunities, then our country will make greater progress."

Zuckerberg's facebook post was given had it's share of negative and positive comments. However, it was "liked" more than 83,000 times and was shared over 5,000 times including Hollywood actor Ashton Kutcher.

Sandra Lambarri Johnson commented on Zuckerberg's facebook post:"As someone who arrived in the US as an undocumented immigrant at the age of ten, I thank you for that generosity."

Zuckerberg and his wife specified that their intention of the donation was that they wanted to help extend their efforts in the Bay Area in support of the social and economic programs in their local community.
