Valedictorian Turns Graduation Into A “Shake It Off” Flash Mob

This senior class knows how to do graduation right. Instead of suffering through endless speeches and pep talks about their bright futures, these high school students took matters into their own hands and put on a graduation ceremony that nobody in their New Hampshire town will soon forget.

The graduating class of Portsmouth High School in Portsmouth, New Hampshire bid farewell to their stomping grounds of four years with an impressive display of teamwork and school spirit. Class valedictorian Colin Yost concluded his commencement speech - in which he encouraged his peers to embrace their inner nerd - by leading the 230-plus students into a surprise flash mob set to Taylor Swifts "Shake it Off." As the music started playing, Colin shimmies from the podium to the half court, signaling his classmates to rise from their seats and perform the dance. It didn't take long before the entire class of 2015 is on on the move and they did shake their stuff to the entire song while everyone in the auditorium is on their feet.

You have to give major props to these students. The whole routine was immaculately choreographed, and they didn't miss a beat. Watching them celebrate together like that just makes you want to get up dance. Captured by the local new station and dozens of cell phones, Colin told the ABC affiliate WMUR, "Oh my gosh, it was amazing. I could not have imagined it coming out any better myself."

One of the graduates, Georgian Head, told WMUR, "We just wanted to do something that had a lot of energy and brought us all together as a class," and it's safe to say they did just that plus a ton more. These seniors left a legacy at Portsmouth High School that is going to be hard to top next year, but their commitment to each other and their school is pretty moving. I'm not ashamed to admit I was smiling through my tears.
