Waitrose, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Asda and Tesco Recall 'Gluten-Free' Products

The Food Standards Agency is recalling Genius-branded "gluten free" products after being proven that they actually contain gluten. Supermarkets that initiated the retraction are Waitrose, Sainsburry, Morrisons, Asda and Tesco.

As reported by hucknalldispatch, the food agency sensed a possible health risk to those who have gluten allergy or intolerance as the products may have trace of gluten composite. However, Genius ensured the public that the products are safe to consume but they need to recall for compliance.

The specific products being recalled includes Crumpets and Livwell Garlic Naan of Genius. Asda supermarket withdraw the White Pitta Breads, Garlic and Coriander Naan Breads, and gluten-free pizza bases.

The third largest chain of supermarkets Sainsbury took back their multi-seeded and white pitta breads, sultana scones, garlic and Coriander Naan breads, and syrup pancakes. Waitrose recalled their gluten-free pancakes, pitta and scones.

Tesco has also recalled their free-from garlic and Coriander Naan, Crumpets, pizza bases, and pitta bread, while Morrisons drew back their free from gluten pizza bases.

In the statement given by Genius reported by Lesley Foottit in Bakeryinfo, they confirm recalling some products which contains traces of the substance.

"Having consulted with our retail partners yesterday we can also now confirm that in addition to making Genius products, the Bathgate Bakery in Scotland, which Genius acquired in 2013, also makes private label products for UK supermarkets, and also the Livwell brand," Genius stated.

"The same gluten contamination issue has affected all products listed in an FSA statement published on 7 June, and similar recall procedures have been put in place in order to ensure the safety of all customers which, as always, remains our first priority," Genius added.

They confirmed that the products recalled just contain very low content of gluten, which poses little health risks. Genius wants the public to know that they are taking the nature of the problem seriously so that in the future, they can prevent problems and risk the lives of their loyal consumers.
