[VIRAL] 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens': Did C-3PO Get A New Arm? [PHOTOS]

There are only six months to go before the release of the highly anticipated 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens,' but there are barely any leaks on the plot or even the characters that will appear in the film. The recent photographs from the film set and the announcement that Andy Serkis will play another motion-capture character have only proven that Lucasfilms likes to keep things hush-hush until the premiere.

The release of the movie's promotional merchandise also gives away little detail, except for an original character getting a slight upgrade.

Twitter user @SWzahack recently posted a picture of a special Star Wars can. The photo shows C-3PO and R2-D2 with new droid BB8 with the caption, "Interesting can via Mexico...."

In the picture, C-3PO's left arm is slightly hidden behind the Star Wars logo, but it is clearly seen to be a different color from his usual gold form. Other netizens were quick to react that the arm may have been painted on, however another photo of C-3PO's new arm has also surfaced.

The second picture shows a Star Wars chairs and table set. The design on the table shows the three droids and a better glimpse at C-3PO's bright red arm.

Netizens are still cautious of the merchandise, claiming that it might be a marketing error or that the products have been bootlegged. There are also fans that are more hopeful about the news, given the droid's history of losing limbs in the film series.

Lucasfilms has no comment on the replaced appendage.

C-3PO has appeared in all of the Star Wars movies. He was created by Anakin Skywalker (Jake Lloyd) using spare parts in 'Episode I: The Phantom Menace.' The humanoid robot later teams up with fellow droid R2-D2 and the two have worked together ever since. He is played by Anthony Daniels in all of the Star Wars films.

'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' is scheduled for release on December 18, 2015.
