Apple has recently announced a voluntary product recall for all of the Beats Pill XL Speakers sold due to fire safety risk.
The developer of the product found out that its battery may overheat, which can be a threat to the safety of the users. Apple showed their concern for their costumers by posting on their official site ordering them to stop using the product.
According to THE US Consumer Product Safety Commission, 8 reported incidents were received by the company regarding the overheating of Beats Pill XL. In one incident, the finger of a consumer was hurt. Another case happened where a someone's desk was damaged.
In the United Sates alone, more than 230,000 consumers purchased the speakers.
The product was introduced by hip-hop artist Dre and Beats in 2013. In 2014, Apple spent US$3 billion to purchase Beats, which is the speaker's manufacturer.
Apple confirmed that they will be refunding customers who bought the US$395 item, provided that they can show the receipt or other proof of billing. If not, they will still return more than 80% or $325 if the consumer is able to complete the online form provided by the company.
Apple also mentioned on their site that the Beats Pill XL is the only product that can cause fire safety risk. Other devices produced by the company are safe and not affected by the recall.
The incident may alter the company's reputation but the move made by Apple shows that they do not only care about sales. They also have a heart for their consumers.
Solo2 headphone was the last hardware produced by Beats on November 2014 according to TechCrunch. The launch of this brand of headphones occurred during the post-acquisition of Beats by Apple. However, Apple does not play a key role in the process of manufacturing the products inside Beats.
