Mobile Health Technology Can Improve Healthcare Services In Africa

Mobile health care technology has played a significant role in changing and making medical conditions better in the regions of Nigera, Liberia and Sierra Leone in Africa.

Several mobile apps available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store have been utilized as monitoring tools and knowledge bases that help healthcare practitioners widen their understanding in their respective fields.

One particular company stands out in developing this type of app, Austin-based Health Tronics, Inc. Recently, as they acquired Laser Ventures, Inc, the credibility of the company has been solidified as they offer clinically-sophisticated mobile applications that contain different types of information for medical therapies.

Access to good medical healthcare in third world countries like Africa is difficult. Maternal care to treatment of epidemic diseases is a struggle due to lack of good medical services and facilities.

Many have utilized the popularity of smartphones as an advantage in improving healthcare services. App developers like Health Tronics, Inc. have made partnerships with health professionals to come up with mobile apps that can be used not just in Africa, but in other parts of the world.

The Center for Technology Innovations at Brookings released a report stating that, "mobile health technology may be used to manage disease epidemics, maternal healthcare, and chronic conditions. In particular, telehealth platforms and wearable devices can better track patient health as well as the effectiveness of treatments and diagnostics."

This innovation would be of much help to mothers who are nursing their babies, or let the public be aware of what to do to ensure their own health and that of their loved ones, preventing them to contract epidemic diseases such as the Ebola virus.

The outbreak that happened in Africa recently would not have been as dangerous as it was if only the public had enough access to knowledge about Ebola prevention and healthcare workers.

The pioneers of this innovation are planning to upgrade the services these mobile applications can offer to the people.
