It's hard to think a fish larger than an NBA player could be caught while on a kayak, but that's exactly what happened to a Cape Coral resident earlier this week - and, as anyone who could have caught a goliath fish on Kayak, his reaction to the sea giant.
This type of fish is called Goliath for an obvious biblical reference to the giant man King David once defeated, and it's appropriate enough for a fish that can go on to measure about 7 feet and hundreds of pounds, such as the particularly big goliath fish on kayak this week!
According to Fist Coast News, the person who caught the goliath fish on kayak is called John Black, and he was on a fishing trip in Sanibal, Florida, last week when he caught a fish almost 7 feet long weighing approximately 552 pounds - which, understandably enough, caused him to shriek in amazement!
Grind TV reports that Black's from the Crazy Lure Tackle shop in Cape Coral, and he was on a fishing trip when he caught the enormous goliath fish on kayak, which is thought to be the biggest one of its kind ever caught on this type of very small boat.
Of course, law required that the caught goliath fish on kayak was later released, as the species is actually protected - but Black managed to get it to share to have it measured ... besides having a fantastic YouTube video to prove his major adventure!
International Business Times reports that the Atlantic Goliath Groupers, known as "cernia gigante" in Italy, can measure up to 9 feet weighing 900 pounds, but this one was a bit smaller - though among the largest ever caught altogether.
In any case, the hilarious video where Black caught the goliath fish on kayak has gone viral, showing him excited as a little boy - besides breaking Black's fishing rod in half!
