TV's The Big Bang Theory (TBBT) star Jim Parson is now on Broadway playing God. That's his character on the actual play called 'An Act of God 'and his debut is looking good according to critics.
Based on a review made by Stan Friedman of The New York Theater Guide, the whole concept for the show started as a Twitter account called @TheTweetOfGod by playwright David Javerbaum. It gained a lot of followers that it reached to almost 2 million. The show can be seen at New York's Studio 54 and runs for an hour and half. It falls under the category of comedy and both critics and the paying audience had a good laugh after its premier.
It was indeed a wonder for some that out of all the actors available, Parsons was chosen to play the role.It however, makes sense as the selection was based on him earning his popularity in a TV doing comedy and his professional background in theater as well. The result of having him on Broadway was not a bad idea after all.
The show's premier was a success especially when Variety called the launch "divine". They also covered the exact sales that the show made for the first four previews and it was a whopping $477,703.
For a new play that people have absolutely no idea of, those numbers are looking great. And those were just the numbers was for the premiere sales. The chances of this show becoming a box office hit is definitely promising.
NBC New York described Parson's role as God akin to his character Sheldon Cooper from TBBT. It just more energetic and sarcastic. Parson's playing God was received by many to be funny, however when the God character is provoked, He'll turn you into a pillar of salt just like God did to Lot's wife in the Bible scriptures.
