The 1994 cult classic 'The Crow' had a truly wicked villain named Top Dollar. The gangster boss, played by Michael Wincott, was a sadistic crime lord who ordered the murder of an innocent couple. In the upcoming film reboot, Top Dollar is set to return as a woman.
According to Deadline, Andrea Riseborough is currently in talks to play the main antagonist in the much-awaited remake. If the actress signs on, this will give a new edge to the feared gangster boss.
Riseborough has appeared in several films including 'Brighton Rock,' 'Never Let Me Go' and 'Welcome to the Punch.' She starred opposite Tom Cruise in the 2013 sci-fi movie 'Oblivion.' Riseborough's most recent projects are the multiple award-winning drama 'Birdman' and the romantic movie 'The Silent Storm' with Damian Lewis.
Relativity Media has had trouble finding the perfect Eric Draven. The role has been offered to Mark Wahlberg, Tom Hiddleston, Alexander Skarsgaard and Luke Evans. Most recently, Jack Huston has reportedly signed on to take the lead role.
In the original film, Draven was played by the late Brandon Lee, who passed away during filming.
Several directors have also been in negotiations to helm the reboot. Stephen Norrington was originally working on the film, but since he stepped down, other directors have been tapped. Rob Zombie was even set to direct 'The Crow: 2037,' however the project was never realized.
As of late 2014, Colin Hardy has been confirmed to direct the remake.
'The Crow' was based on James O'Barr's comic book of the same name. It was a sleeper hit that made more than $50 million worldwide and received several award nominations. The film later had several sequels and even had a TV series starring Mark Dacascos.
Despite all the criticism about the reboot, 'The Crow' creator O'Barr is deeply involved with the remake. He will serve as a consultant for the film.
