For forty years, the McDonalds Hamburglar was one of the most beloved characters to come out of the chain with the Golden Arches, alongside other favorites like the iconic Ronald McDonald and others such as Grimace; now, four years after being pulled from the company's advertisement, it's back - with a new look!
Those who grew up with Happy Meals will remember the McDonald's Hamburglar, the official villain in the chain, an old-style burglar with just one tooth, a black and white stripes suit and completely obsessed with burgers.
However, then he was short and stubby; however, the new look has the classic character looking slimmer and younger, as the McDonald's Hamburglar marks an obvious attempt from the chain to entice millennials back with a character from their childhoods, as their sales massively drop - but so far the reactions to the new version haven't been all that favorable.
According to Mashable, the chain is bringing back the McDonald's Hamburglar for the first time in 13 years, since he was last in network television in 2002, and his look changed quite a lot from the last time the world saw him; from being a short round-cheeked guy, now he's tall, slim and also wearing a slick black trench coat with leather high tops.
Also, he's now a human being instead of a cartoon.
Business Insider reports that the first reactions to the new McDonald's Hamburglar have been mixed, as those in social media seem to vary between those who think the new version is creepy or kind of hot.
It's hard to say whether McDonald's was aiming at either one of those.
Time Magazine reports that the character's return joins another fan favorite making a new appearance, though that one's an actual food item: the Sirloin Third Pound burger.
For now, there are only a few teasers going around the Internet of the new version of the character, but it hasn't kept Twitter users from commenting.
It's unclear whether the new McDonald's Hamburglar will be joined by other characters from the McDonald's vault anytime soon.
