Drone Delivering Asparagus Crashes On Asparagus Season

Drone delivering asparagus? A quadcopter drone delivering asparagus was crashed and was burned down into pieces after it failed to arrive in its destination. The drone carrying asparagus was one of the latest public stunts of one restaurant owner to mark the start of the asparagus season.

The drone delivering asparagus started its flight from the farm and is set to arrive on a Netherlands restaurant but it failed to reach its destination, the De Zwann restaurant in Etten-Leur, in the Netherlands, when it was caught on fire while traveling.

It successfully took off from the farm carrying a metal can to contain stalks of asparagus, the International Business Times reported.

The drone delivering asparagus was being followed by the pilot controlling it in a van while a local TV channel was also there to wait for the coverage. On its initial flight, it was traveling smoothly until it reached for a battery change.

It flew again on its second take off however, the drone delivering asparagus crashed and blazed on fire in a country road, the Independent reports.

"Yeah, that wasn't funny. You think you have a cool idea - with a drone - how original can you be? Picking up asparagus with a drone," said Ronald Peijenburg, owner of the De Zwann restaurant in Etten-Leur, North Brabant who conceptualized the idea told the Omroep Brabant local TV station.

The feat was set by the owner of the De Zwann restaurant to signal the beginning of the asparagus season. According to Popsci report, De Zwann restaurant has the tradition of displaying catchy ideas to start the season and it was a move for the restaurant to "garner attention."

In the previous start of asparagus season, De Zwann restaurant used hot air balloon and a Formula 1 racing car to bring the first stalks of asparagus of the season to his restaurant.

De Zwann restaurant was not the first one to use drone delivering asparagus. TGI Fridays had used the same gimmick when it tried to fly mistletoe drones over customer's heads. However it turned to misery when it brought injury to one photographer.
