Saudi Arabia is one of the biggest allies of the United States - and, in general, the West - in the Middle East, but an iconic Al Qaeda member that's currently imprisoned in Colorado has stated that the Saudi royalty had actually backed the World Trade Center attacks in 2001, as the latest Zacarias Moussaoui 9/11 statements come to light.
Serving a life sentence without parole for his involvement in the Al Qaeda attacks that saw planes hijacked and crashing into the World Trade Center in Manhattan and the Pentagon in Washington back in 2001, the latest Zacarias Moussaoui 9/11 comments have him stating that the Saudi royal family was an important part of the funding behind the attacks.
According to The Guardian, the newest from Zacarias Moussaoui's 9/11 sees the terrorist claiming that some of the most senior members of the Saudi royalty heavily funded Al Qaeda at the time of the attacks, even though the group led by Osama Bin Laden had declared war against the United States as early as 1998.
CNN reports that the new Zacarias Moussaoui 9/11 claims appear in a recent lawsuit, where the Islamist extremist, dubbed the "20th 9/11 Hijacker," states that in his time in Al Qaeda he met prominent members of the royal family of Saudi Arabia, who gave visible support for the attacks.
According to BBC, since last year, there have been lawyers of 9/11 victims suing Saudi Arabia for an alleged involvement with the attacks. Back in October, Moussaoui have testimony in the court case, but it has only surfaced to the public this week, as the Saudi government has made a court bid to drop the lawsuit altogether.
In his statement, Moussaoui says that there were "extremely famous" royals such as Prince Turki al-Faisal Al Saud that were funding Al Qaeda from the late years of the 90s.
The Saudi government has denied Zacarias Moussaoui's 9/11 claims, stating they lack credibility due to the fact that he is a "deranged criminal."
