Neil DeGrasse Tyson ‘Star Talk’ Show: ‘Cosmos’ Host Gets Nat Geo Late Night Show!

Probably the most popular man in science and often dubbed a sort of rock star in his own field, now Neil DeGrasse Tyson's "Star Talk" show will become a late night competitor, after years of issuing it from a podcast platform.

Tyson, an astrophysicist and cosmologist by education and an author and science communicator by vocation, has been hosting the Neil DeGrasse Tyson "Star Talk" show as a radio program since 2009; but, now, National Geographic has announced that there are plans of turning it into a late night talk show for those who truly love science.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the announcement regarding Neil DeGrasse Tyson's "Star Talk" show came this Thursday, when Nat Geo announced they'd be getting their business in a market previously unknown to the network: late-night talk shows. Of course, Tyson being one of the best known figures in science right now, it's no wonder he's the one who got the hosting gig.

Following the success of the award-winning mini-series "Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey" hosted by Tyson (a sequel to Carl Sagan's "Cosmos: A Personal Voyage"), it should come as no surprise that Nat Geo chose Neil DeGrasse Tyson's "Star Talk" show to be their flagship talk show, though it is unclear whether they'll launch any other programs of the kind.

"Cosmos allowed us to share the awesome power of the universe with a global audience in ways that we never thought possible," said Tyson in a statement, according to Time Magazine. "To be able to continue to spread wonder and excitement through Star Talk, which is a true passion project for me, is beyond exciting."

Hollywood Reporter states that the new Neil DeGrasse Tyson's "Star Talk" show will premiere next April, and it will follow the same format as his podcast, including about ten minutes' time in each show for Bill Nye to talk about science.

Also, the network is planning on airing the premiere alongside a one-hour special entitled "Hubble's Cosmic Journey" - so it will be space and science time for those who love to look at the stars!
