Following a year of waiting, finally the "Downton Abbey" season 5 is here, and there's a whole lot of things going on with the famous Crawley family, as they enter the roaring 20s, where things are about to change forever.
American audiences have had to wait for a few months after the premiere of the "Downton Abbey" season 5 in its original country, the United Kingdom; but now, the house led by patriarch Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham, has come back to American screens - and almost disappeared in the process, following a fire that was pretty much created from pure sadness.
As The Daily Beast reviews, it seems that the "Downton Abbey" season 5 will be all about how incredibly sad - with reason - Lady Edith has become in the past few episodes, after she was practically left a widow, although not technically, which is something close to unforgivable for her time and social status.
Of course, in the past season, the character played by Laura Carmichael had sex with the love of her life, Michael Gregson (played by Charles Edwards), right before he left for Germany to make a life for them; however, she became pregnant and he disappeared, probably a victim of the early days of Adolf Hitler in Berlin.
Due to this, Lady Edith had to give up her daughter in Switzerland last season, and the "Downton Abbey" season 5 sees her longing for her love and missing her little child, she has turned into perhaps the most tragic figure in television - so sad she has become that, according to The Daily Mail, she even ended up setting the house on fire because she was so miserable she didn't even notice the flames around her.
Of course, the "Downton Abbey" season 5 doesn't only bring turmoil for Lady Edith, but Lady Mary (played by Michelle Dockery) also gets to see some action, as reported by Oregon Live - quite literally, as one of her beaus downright propositions to her saying they should get to know "everything there is to know about each other" - quite indecent for the 1920s, though Mary is clearly a woman of her time, and maybe even ahead of it.
In any case, the people from Downton are back on American screens - and even George Clooney will be around by the end of the season!
