Joan Collins 2014: ‘Dynasty’ Star Honored By Queen Elizabeth II, Becomes Dame Of United Kingdom

For Joan Collins, 2014 has definitely ended on a high note: in a recent State ceremony, the actress best known for her portrayal of super diva Alexis Carrington Colby in the Aaron Spelling 80s iconic soap opera "Dynasty" has been named a Dame of the United Kingdom.

A lot of the United Kingdom's most notorious actresses have been named Dame in the past, like Helen Mirren, Maggie Smith and Judi Dench; for Joan Collins, 2014 was the year where she entered a line of women ranging from great actresses like those and Elizabeth Taylor to even "Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the latest Joan Collins 2014 honor was bestowed upon her by reigning United Kingdom monarch Queen Elizabeth II. While less known than a knighthood, the "damehood" is actually the female equivalent to it, and is given to women who have excelled greatly in their line of work or given some form of service to the British kingdom.

For Collins, the title of Dame came for her services to charity, as she has been a long supporter of different children's charitable foundations, like the International Foundation for Children with learning Disabilities.

Now, among these, the world can find Joan Collins' 2014 honors, though she wasn't the only famous face in the last ceremony: according to the BBC, fellow actress Kristin Scott Thomas (from iconic British films like "The English Patient" and "Four Weddings and a Funeral") also became a dame in the Tuesday ceremony; actor John Hurt, famous for a long career of films like "1984" and "V for Vendetta," also became a knight as he was honored for his services to drama - he will now be known as "sir John Hurt."

Other honorees included comic James Corden (the new host of "The Late Late Show") and "Breaking the Waves" actress Emily Watson, who were both named Officers of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). Also, according to People Magazine, Simon Campbell, inventor of Viagra, was also honored - so it wasn't only a great year's end for Joan Collins' 2014!
