"Independence Day" sequel was confirmed by 20th Century Fox on Nov. 26, Hollywood Life revealed. For almost two decades, avid fans have been waiting for the second instalment of sci-fi thriller in 1996 which have made a mark in the box office. Fox said that preparation will start on May 2015 to give them ample time to polish everything before the target release date on June 2016.

Dreams come true for sci-fi enthusiasts to have something to look forward to on June 2016. From now onwards, fans can already imagine what it would be like to have the second instalment of the "Independence Day" considering how the first one garnered $800 million in the box office.

Fans should keep a constant watch on the possible release of teasers and trailers which have the tendency to leak to the media prior to the premiere date of the film.

The film's prequel was directed by Ronald Emmerich and there were reports that Fox is currently under negotiation with Emmerich to handle the same task again. His remarkable performance and knowledge during the first instalment is a big boost that can improve the planned sequel.

The casts will be finalized as soon as negotiations with Emmerich are done. They say that the final script is ready and former lead star of "Independence Day" Will Smith might not reprise his previous role. More updates are in store as the studio takes their pick among the best possible stars to take part in the film.

Jeff Goldblum said in an interview sometime in October that he had talks with Devlin and Emmerich about his possible appearance in the sequel.

Despite the reported negotiations with Emmerich, producer Dean Devlin of the first instalment posted a statement on his twitter account that he will be producing the film together with Emmerich and Harald Kloser.
