Celebrity Diet Update: Carrie Underwood Will Have Vegetearian Diet While Pregnant

Carrie Underwood is really making efforts to maintain her figure despite being pregnant as she has recently announced that she plans to be a vegetarian in order to avoid gaining weight this upcoming Holidays.

The 31-year-old country singer reportedly has maintained her vegetarian diet when she was still a teenager and noted that she will continue her meat-free diet during her pregnancy. The Grammy winner and American Idol star is expecting her first child with her husband Mike Fisher. Their first bundle of joy is said to be a baby boy.

Underwood said, "I have been vegetarian for about 10 years now. With pregnancy, I am definitely going more on the vegetarian side, but as soon as I am not pregnant anymore I will go back to being vegan."

The vegetarian diet is said to be great for both a pregnant mother and her baby as long as the woman gets the needed and appropriate nutrients and vitamins. Doctors are then to prescribe supplements that won't be available in the vegetables.

Also, pregnant women need more protein during second and third trimesters according to the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. The lacto-vegetarians and lacto-ovo vegetarians could easily maintain the healthy pregnancy rather than women who undergo a vegan diet.

Mothers who are then refraining to eat meat, fish, and eggs are asked to consume other foods that are rich in iron in order to compensate for the loss nutrients. Leafy vegetables and grains are required in order to minimize anemia.

Also, women who do not eat meat are at risk of having deficiency regarding the vitamin B-12. The vitamin is said to be found in animal-based protein and milk.

However, the singer announced, "I don't think I am craving anything too crazy. I try to keep it as healthy as possible and try to take care of myself. And, you know, putting good things in!"
