The Mint Julep's connection to the Kentucky Derby is undeniable. Legend has it that the traditional silver julep cups they are served in were first used at the Derby in the 1920s, and the tradition of frosty glasses brimming with this minty bourbon concoction has stuck around ever since.

Here's Ammunition's take on this down-home Southern classic:

• Julep cup 
• Muddler 
• Bar spoon

INGREDIENTS:

• 8 mint leaves
• 1/4 ounce simple syrup
• Crushed ice
• 2 ounces Ammunition Straight Bourbon
• Mint sprig for garnish

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Muddle those mint leaves and the simple syrup in the cup you are serving it in. 
2. Add your bourbon and give it a good stir.
3. Pack your glass with crushed ice. Stir it all together until the outside of your cup gets frosty - that's how you know it's perfectly chilled.
4. Garnish with a fresh mint sprig. 
5. Make your bets and get ready for the race!
