Uh oh, spice lovers! The FDA just announced a recall because certain ground cinnamon products might have a hidden danger: lead. Lead is a severe health hazard, especially for young children, and can cause long-term problems. Here are the affected products...
Throw away any of these ground cinnamon brands in your pantry that were bought at any of the grocers listed below:
Lead exposure can be dangerous and can affect people of all ages. However, children under the age of six are especially vulnerable because their bodies are still developing. Symptoms of lead exposure in kids can be subtle and may not appear immediately. Things to watch out for include headaches, irritability, loss of appetite, fatigue, stomach pain, and learning and behavioral problems.
If you have any recalled cinnamon products listed above, toss them. Also, lead residue can linger on surfaces, so be sure to clean the pantry area, cooking surfaces, and any other containers or cookware that may have been exposed to contaminated products. If you think that you or someone in your family may have been exposed to lead, talk to your healthcare provider as soon as possible.
