McDonald's ‘McPick 2’: From $1 Menu To $2 Menu, Upgrade or Downgrade?

Going from a $1 menu to a $2 menu might seem like a higher price, but according to the Business Insider, McDonald's is in fact getting cheaper with its new "value platform," reportedly posing some serious competition for other fast food chains.

McDonald's is saying goodbye to their "Dollar Menu & More" deals for their new "McPick 2" menu. The menu, which will still retain $1 items, will however require consumers to buy menu items in pairs.

The limited-time deal includes any two of the following menu items: A McDouble, a McChicken, small fries and their new mozzarella sticks (available only in select locations).

The "McPick 2" menu will technically begin January 4 and end February 8, 2016. However, McDonald's reportedly intends on allowing extensions depending on a location's success with the new promotion.

Two years ago, McDonald's has also reformulated the Dollar Menu and turned it into the "Dollar Menu and More." Items priced as much as $5 are included.

While seemingly well meant, customers reportedly became upset with the change.

"Some of the challenges we've had in the US have been somewhat self-inflicted," McDonald's CEO Steve Easterbrook said in a July conference. "We moved away from the Dollar Menu and didn't replace it with significant-enough value in the eyes of consumers."

The new promotions show that the economy is improving despite lower gas prices, since customers still demand discounts from fast-food chains. The Business Insider reported that about one-quarter of McDonald's customers are motivated by value meals.

The new McPick 2" value meal aims to increase the traffic of value meal -loving customers.

While it may seem that the customer is the winner with McDonald's new menu, according to Food Beast, being forced to choose two items is upsetting. The website adds that cornering patrons with the new menu is risky for the fast food restaurant chain.
