‘Lost In Space’ Remake? Netflix Leading Reboot Fight, Lands Rights To Classic 60s Sci-Fi Show – Right After New ‘Star Trek’ Series Is Announced!

Netflix has certainly turned into the big reigniter of past shows this year, having announced new projects around favorites like "Full House," "Wet Hot American Summer" and even "Gilmore Girls," so now they're delving into sci-fi with a "Lost in Space" remake.

Netflix has it covered fantasy-wise through their deal with Disney to slowly bring the Defenders into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (with "Daredevil" and "A.K.A. Jessica Jones" being the first two projects), but they're no doubt thinking to expand, as they now reportedly have a "Lost in Space" remake in the works weeks after the announcement of a new "Star Trek" show.

"[The "Lost in Space" remake will be] an epic but grounded science fiction saga focusing on a young explorer family from Earth lost in an alien universe and the challenges they face in staying together against seemingly insurmountable odds," reports Deadline in its story, saying the streaming site turned production company won the rights for the story after a long bidding war with many interested parties.

Rolling Stone reports that there are already a few people involved in the "Lost in Space" remake project, namely "Dracula Untold" writers Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama as well as "Game of Thrones" and "Hannibal" director Neil Marshall, who has already signed up to be behind the camera for the pilot episode.

The aforementioned people will also be executive producing the project, along with Kevin Burns and Mark Helwig - and according to Collider, this isn't the first time Burns attempts a "Lost in Space" remake, as there have been numerous times ahead including an NBC revival series and a reboot WB reboot "The Robinsons: Lost in Space."

The last time the story was on the screen was in 1998, when "Friends" actor Matt LeBlanc starred in a big screen remake that was panned by critics.

Expect more updates on the upcoming "Lost in Space" remake!
