Joss Whedon ‘Avengers’: Can You Believe ‘Buffy’ Creator Got Paid More For ‘Dr. Horrible’ Than Marvel’s ‘Avengers’?

Three years ago, Joss Whedon's "Avengers," the very first time the biggest team of Marvel superheroes assembled on the big screen, making billions of dollars for Disney in its first and wildly successful venture owning the franchise - but now it seems like the director wasn't paid accordingly.

Earlier this week, the director, who was behind cult shows like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Firefly," was on a Q&A during a reunion of one of his most beloved projects, the Internet musical series "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog," when the topic of Joss Whedon's "Avengers" obviously came out, and the director, who is famously displeased with the way he was treated at Marvel Studios, shared some of the reasons for his frustrations.

According to Variety, when speaking about his labor of love in "Dr. Horrible," the 51 year-old filmmaker and screenwriter shared that, in fact, his first Joss Whedon "Avengers" job, when he wrote the screenplay and directed the film, he got paid less than he did for the indie project.

As Cinema Blend reports, it's unclear whether this Joss Whedon "Avengers" statement is true or just the director being sarcastic - which he often will do, particularly in events where he's more chill like surrounded by fans of the Neil Patrick Harris series.

"Some facts are not facts. I'm not going to go into the whole thing, but jeepers, I'm not getting $100 mil on Avengers 2," said the director about Joss Whedon's "Avengers 2" salary back in 2013, fending off rumors to Deadline. "If I were, I would come on this site and laugh and laugh and laugh. I'm not making Downey money. I'm making A LOT, which is exciting. I'm not pretending to be a poor farmer, an Everyman, an ANYman. But that number is nuts."

In any case, Joss Whedon's "Avengers" involvement is over as far as everyone's concerned, after directing two Marvel Cinematic Universe and being the executive producer of "Agents of SHIELD."
