Lena Dunham's Weight Loss: Actress Says Running Aided Her with Weight Loss And Depression

Lena Dunham who was struggling with a weight issue and being fat shamed said running helped her physically and emotionally. After 16 years of being under medication, she said running helped her manage her anxiety, depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

"Endorphins are real," Dunham told ESPN. "You run with someone for an hour, you feel pretty good. Running for an hour does not make you feel worse."

Lena said she learned to embrace running not for weight loss, instead she realized the importance of exercise, especially its health benefits to the human body.

"I'm going to be 30 next year," she explained. "As you age, you have to move. You have to move so your brain doesn't atrophy. You have to move so that you look a little bit like a person that you might want to be." She also said that there are many reasons why exercising is necessary but she found ways to make it sexy for herself.

The 29 year old who used to struggle with her weight learned to embrace her curves, thanks to her boyfriend Jack Antonoff who loved her unconditionally. She said she stopped weighing herself three years ago, as she realized that she is with someone, who really loves and appreciates her body image.

She added, "I went through a phase where it was like, one pound up and my day was horrible; two pounds down and I was queen of the world. It was just a ridiculous code. There is no reason why you ever need to be getting a scale or measuring your value by a scale."

Dunham lost a lot of weight recently and now currently weighs 150 pounds, which she credits to her fitness trainer, Tracy Anderson, who also trains other celebrities, including Jennifer Lopez and Gwyneth Paltrow. Her workouts are a combination of cardio and weight lifting and Pilates, as per Celebrity Health & Fitness.
