The northern beach girl who was hit by a car while on holiday in Las Vegas three weeks ago, remains in a coma as the insurance company refused to pay for her treatment, News Local reported.
Peter Baldwin said that his daughter Brooke, 21 years old has been fighting for her life since the accident. He said that the insurance company refused to cover her treatment because they claimed that she was intoxicated during the incident.
"They rang Lisa at 11.30pm at night and said 'we're not going to cover it because she was intoxicated.' I asked them for it in writing and they didn't respond," Baldwin said.
Mr Baldwin explained that her daughter was hit by a car while crossing the road early morning after a night out with her friends. What's even worse, someone stole her bag during the incident.
He said, "When she was hit by the car, all the people were rushing over, and somebody grabbed her bag, and some scumbag wrenched it out and ran off with it. It was everything she had."
Brooke was sent to the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada. After two weeks of delays due to tje issuance of a US Visa problem, Mr Baldwin managed to fly to Vegas to be at his daughter's side.
He said that the cause of the delay was due to the Visa processing problem. It wasn't approve until he called on MP Bronwyn Bishop to intervene.
He said that he already took the matter to a lawyer. And Brooke's friends are running a fundraising to raise money for her medical bills. They already garnered almost $20,000.
Brooke is said to be suffering from a broken leg, shoulder and hip. But her body is reportedly starting to heal and she's starting to open her eyes more often.
Mr Baldwin is hoping that his presence will help in his daughter's recovery.
