Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed Ready For Kids: It Takes 'Perfect Practice' [PHOTOS]

Ian Somerhalder gushed about wanting to start a family with his wife, Nikki Reed, during a 'Words With Friends' event on Thursday, September 10. Ian got super excited when talking about becoming a father.

Ian Somerhalder says he and Nikki are actively engaging in “perfect practice” while trying to conceive a baby.

"Oh, hell yes! Absolutely. You know, it’s all about practice. It's not practice makes perfect — it's perfect practice," the 36-year-old actor joked to Entertainment Tonight. "I’m actually pregnant right now!"

He continued: "It’s the most incredible thing to be happy and secure in something. It’s a pretty crazy time and place to bring a child into this turbulent and insane world — but I really can’t wait to do it and really just love it."

Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed, who starred in the 'Twilight' franchise, got married on April 26 after nine months of dating.

Following the quiet ceremony at the Tuscali Mountain Inn in Topanga, California, Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed flew to Tulum, Mexico for their honeymoon, where they showed off their hot bods and engaged in plenty of PDA.

And earlier this month, the couple shared stunning photos from their wedding day, which will be featured in a fall issue of Brides magazine.

Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed also take pride in their love for animals, and are already parents to nine pets, including horses Eagle and Millie, kitten Sohalia, and dogs Nietzsche and Enzo.

"The amount of compassion fueled by passion that [Nikki] puts into the world in regards to animals is second to none," Somerhalder said at the debut of his We All Love Wildlife video series in San Pedro, Calif., in July.

"I mean she changes her house into a rescue and a foster home for so many animals and has taken so much time and energy and money of her own with her family, particularly her mom, to foster animals and make sure that they are safe."

Ian added: "That in and of itself is really something that solidifies us as a unit that really is an amazing thing to wake up to every morning."
