A Chinese woman with the surname Zhou was traveling to Wenzhou last Friday. She was at the Beijing Capital International Airport, about to board her lane, when Beijing airport security stopped her after they found a 700mL bottle of Rémy Martin XO Excellence in her carry-on luggage, according to the South China Morning Post.
China security provisions ban liquids over 100mL to be hand-carried inside planes.
The security staff at the airport in Beijing apparently had no idea that what they did would force the woman into the ultimate drinking challenge. Because they refused Zhou to carry her $200 Cognac onto the plane, she decided to chug the entire bottle of Cognac by herself.
Indeed, it would have been a waste if Zhou simply left her newly-bought 700ml bottle of Cognac at the airport, since it is prized at about US$200.
Zhou, who is about 40 according to media reports, bought the Cognac botte at a US airport. She was transferring to a domestic flight in Beijing when the incident took place.
The Chinese woman eventually became "too drunk to fly", according to a local newspaper. She was barred from getting on board the plane at Beijing's main airport. She wasn't allowed from getting on board as staff feared for other passengers' safety, as well as her own, according to TIME.
Because Zhou was reportedly traveling alone, the captain of the Wenzhou-bound flight refused to let her board the plane because her condition might become a safety hazard and liability once on board.
According to a police officer at the scene of the Chinese woman Cognac bottle story, the woman began rolling, shouting and screaming uncontrollably on the floor at a boarding gate at Beijing Capital International Airport after the captain's decision.
"She was so drunk... she couldn't even stand up herself. We took her to a room in a wheelchair so she could rest," one of the officers who brought Zhou to a convalescence room told the Beijing Times.
Several hours later, Zhau woke up, but her flight had already departed. Despite the setback and rather embarrassing Chinese woman Cognac bottle story, she thanked airport security who took care of her throughout the entire ordeal. They also contacted her family, who eventually picked her up from the airport later that evening, according to Food Beast.
