LOL For A Tip: New Jersey Waitress Hits Back After Getting ‘LOL’ Note as Tip; Receipt Goes Viral on Social Media [PHOTO]

Jess Jones is a 20-year-old student studying at Rutgers University. This summer, she is waiting tables at D'Jais Bar & Grill in New Jersey to help put herself through school. However, it appears that what she experienced Monday night after serving a table of eight is less than helpful - she got a 'LOL' for a tip for the customers with a $112 bill.

Jones took to social media following the insulting and disrespectful 'LOL' for a tip experience. On her Facebook the next day, Jones posted about the incident.

"Last night, I was stunned by this receipt that was left for me by a party of eight people. I would have preferred a '$0′ tip than a 'LOL' tip, but as a waitress, bad tips and harsh notes are all part of the job. Even though they did wait an hour to eat, they remained satisfied with filled drinks and proper notice that the kitchen was a bit busier than normal," Jess wrote. "I've worked in the service industry for five years and I take pride in providing great service to my customers."

The 'LOL' for a tip post by Jess quickly went viral. It has since been shared more than 6,800 times on the social media site, reported The New York Daily News. Up to now, LOL for a tip tweets are reportedly still rampant, with people defending Jess and servers throughout the U.S.

According to Asbury Park Press as well as Jess, the meal wasn't such an awful experience to have merited a 'LOL' for a tip. Jess said that on Monday night, the restaurant was packed. While the party of eight had to wait an hour for their food, the waitress said she warned the group in advance. Their bill was a total of $112.

Jones said the entire experience of waiting on the table of eight and getting such treatment was "cruel and unnecessary but sadly it's not uncommon."

Her 'LOL' for a tip post has been shared not only by ordinary citizens but the city's mayor as well. Mayor Matt Doherty said the diners' behavior was "ridiculous."

"If you visit Belmar please treat the hardworking men and women in our service industry with the same respect you would expect at your job," added the Mayor in his post.

Jones also wrote that New Jersey servers earn a meagre $2.50 an hour, with non-tipped workers earning a minimum wage of $8.38, according to USA Today.

Not everyone thought the 'LOL' for a tip story wasn't out of line, with the viral post now sparking serious internet debate about tipping, according to The Inquisitr.

Regardless of anyone's opinion on tipping, there is still no need to be rude and disrespectful to someone simply trying to do their job.
