Mexican actor Diego Luna has finally been confirmed to be a part of 'Star Wars: Rogue One.'
There were initially speculations that the 'Elysium' star was one of the first actors to join Felicity Jones in the 'Star Wars Anthology' film. Although Lucasfilm did not confirm the casting news, Diego Luna has just been announced to be one of the resistance fighters in 'Rogue One' through the first official cast photo.
Diego Luna's appearance in the 'Star Wars: Rogue One' picture has also given rise to a fan theory that he will portray a character that already exists in the 'Star Wars' Cinematic Universe.
Diego Luna does resemble Biggs Darklighter, who was played by Garrick Hagon in the first 'Star Wars' trilogy. The starfighter pilot did have a significant role in the film, being Luke Skywalker's childhood friend from Tatooine.
The Biggs Darklighter speculations are not the only rumors coming out about the 'Rogue One' characters. It was also recently reported that Felicity Jones' character, who will serve as the main protagonist of the film, is actually the daughter of Bobba Fett.
'Star Wars: Rogue One' also stars Forest Whitaker, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Riz Ahmed and Alan Tudyk, who will portray a performance capture character.
What will 'Rogue One' be all about? Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy offers a quick summary.
"Rogue One takes place before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope and will be a departure from the saga films but have elements that are familiar to the Star Wars universe," she said. "It goes into new territory, exploring the galactic struggle from a ground-war perspective while maintaining that essential Star Wars feel that fans have come to know."
Principal shooting has already begun for 'Star Wars: Rogue One,' which will be released on December 16, 2016.
