'Straight Outta Compton': LA Police Increased Security Presence On Opening Night

Following the opening night of the highly anticipated movie "Straight Outta Compton" on Thursday, August 13, the Los Angeles Police Dept. and Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office have reportedly increased the security at the theater venues, according to reports.

The authorities and law enforcement agencies in the region are said to be taking the necessary precautionary measures especially with the rise of movie theater shootings. 'Straight Outta Compton' comes just a few weeks after the Louisiana theater shooting that happened on July 23, which ended up in the death of two moviegoers who just wanted to watch Amy Schumer's 'Trainwreck'.

LAPD representative Jack Richter said in a statement, "In light of everything that's going on, we are dispatching additional officers to theaters that are showing the film. It's a combination of anticipating potential problems and responding to requests from theater owners."

Richter also added that the Los Angeles Police Dept. are mainly held responsible and they will increase its presence, particularly around the theaters in Southwest Division, which reaches the areas of Baldwin Hills, Exposition Park, Crenshaw and West Adams.

Adding to his list of reminders, Richter also noted that Hollywood Division would schedule the routinary dispatching of undercover officers as one of their precautionary measures.

"We can respond with a lot of resources," Richter said. "It's all based on what's requested."

The Los Angeles Sheriff's Dept., on the other hand, is also working on increasing its presence in its jurisdiction, including Compton.

LASD representative, Nicole Nishida, said in a statement, "Sheriff's patrol stations have been working with theater management in their jurisdictions over the last few weeks to develop safety plans and discuss security measures."

She went on to say, "Deputies will be doing patrol checks during their shifts, and the department will be monitoring the release."

On Thursday, Forbes reported that the film grossed a total of $4.957 million in just two and a half hours.

The music biographical film 'Straight Outta Compton' is expected to hit the first place of the U.S box office this weekend, after garnering more than $40 million at 2,751 locations during its first launching week.
