News on James Bond's next outing 'Spectre', has been sparse so far. Apart from the cast unveiling in December of last year and the first teaser trailer which dropped in March, little is known of 007's next mission. Well that all changed today, as Sony and MGM blew the lid off movie with an exciting and action packed trailer that gives us our first look at the film's plot and major players.
We begin in Mexico, with Daniel Craig's Bond carrying out a mission against the will of his MI6 superiors. We hear the voice of Ralph Fiennes', who took over the mantle of M from Dame Judi Dench in the last film, scolding 007 for disobeying orders.
The scene then shifts to a familiar moment for fans of the franchise. We get a look at Ben Whishaw's rebooted Q briefing James on all the latest gadgets he's been working on. Bond has one special request however, 'Make Me Disappear.'
In the series globetrotting fashion, we move to Rome, where James gets up close and personal with the mysterious Lucia Sciarra, played by Italian screen icon Monica Belucci, who warns him against the danger he's about to face.
Following that the trailer moves to a snowy mountain pass. In this scene we catch our first glimpse of Spectre's second Bond girl played by French starlet Lea Seydoux. She and Bond form what looks like an uneasy alliance as they join forces to take on the mysterious organization.
After that we get a montage of quick cuts and action set pieces ending in the moment many have been waiting for: The first appearance of two time academy award winner Christoph Waltz as, presumably, the film's main antagonist. He delivers 007 a chilling message: "It was me James, the author of all your pain."
The trailer hints that Waltz's character has been working behind the scenes all along, pulling the strings through the first three movies. We'll have to wait until November to see what his true motives are.
