Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas were touted as one of the most watched Hollywood couples, and after 18 years of marriage, the love has fizzled into divorce. One year after their split, both have signed the divorce papers and expect it to be finalized within the next few days, according to People.
Griffith and Banderas met and fell in love during the shoot of the 1995 romantic comedy 'Too Much'. They married, and a year after, welcomed their only child, Stella, now 18.
The marriage and divorce is Griffith's fourth. She used to be married to Don Johnson from January to July 1976, and then again, remarried each other from 1989 - 1995, with daughter, Dakota. Steven Bauer is husband no. 2, in between the two Don Johnson episodes, with son, Alexander. Griffith's first public appearance was in a TV advertisement when she was 9 months old. She rose to fame in her role in the 1988 hit 'Working Girl' where she won a Golden Globe. She has had bouts of substance abuse using cocaine and painkillers, and also dependency on alcohol.
The marriage and divorce is Banderas' second, previously married to Ana Leza from 1987 - 1996. While still married to her, he was already in love with Griffith. Months after his split with Griffith became public, he began dating his current girlfriend, 34-year old Nicole Kimpel. Banderas is now 54 years old.
Griffith last year filed for full custody of their daughter, Stella. Stella has just graduated high school, with the whole family in attendance last month. The issue of custody has become moot. Also last month, Griffith and Banderas sold their Hancock Park mansion for $ 15.9 million.
In a statement to the press, the couple said they were ending their marriage in a loving and friendly manner, and that they respect each other, their families and the time they spent together.
