A suicide bombing took place in a Kurdish border town in Turkey that killed at least 31 civilians in Suruc. The mishap was said to be one of the worst bombing-related incidents reported since a war in the neighboring country Syria had been initiated four years ago.

Reports say that the bomber sighted a cultural center in the city of Suruc as the target, where there were reportedly 300 members from several socialist youth groups gathered for a meeting. They were there to discuss the rebuilding projects of Kobani, a town in Syria, situated just across the border town, on Monday, July 20.

As for the ongoing investigation, the government of Turkey blamed the Islamic State for the attack and the authorities were suspecting that the alleged suicide bomber joined a crowd and set off explosives which shattered window glasses, left human limbs all scattered in the area and enlisted more than 100 casualties.

Turkish authorities have identified one suspect and reports say that the investigation is still ongoing. "One suspect has been identified. All the [suspect's] links internationally and domestically are being investigated," Ahmet Davutoglu said aired on television. "We expect this investigation to be concluded as soon as possible."

In response to the tragic bombing attack, Turkey has increased security measures in the border town and authorities have wrapped up numerous suspected ISIS members under arrest during the ongoing raids in Turkey and across the country.

The officials have also tightened border control by slowing down the flow of foreign fighters and deported about 1,500 visitors, mostly from the Western side as the associate countries of Turkey works on improving the intelligence sharing.

"Initial findings point to a suicide bomber and Daesh," Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoghu said in a statement, calling out to the Islamic State by its Arabic acronym.

Idres Nassan Hassan, a Kurdish official from Kobani, added "Those who carried out this attack are part of the terrorist groups we are fighting."
