Microsoft Halo Video Game Sold 65 Million Units

Microsoft, one of the publishers of Halo, announced that the first-person shooter game has sold 65 million games since it debuted. The large number includes the sales on Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One along with two PC titles.

The sci-fi game series which is believed to be the face of Xbox consoles has been in the gaming market for 14 long years with the first edition Halo: Combat Evolved issued in 2001.

For more than a decade, the first edition gained three sequels, one prequel and a variety of spin-offs. It has also grown a large number of fans from different generations of gamers. Many shooting games were developed but nothing compares with Halo.

The game series' sales reached 60 million last year which climbed to 65 million after the Halo: The Master Chief Collection was launched in November 2014. Microsoft believes that it would not be hard for the Halo franchise to sell 100 million within a short period of time. The company is also certain that it will still remain in the market even until a new generation of is released.

The popularity of the franchise has spread out in other mediums as well. Novels, films and other merchandise have been created based on the game.

Halo has contributed a lot in the success of Microsoft in the gaming industry especially in keeping up the sales of Xbox One with Sony's PS4.

With the coming of the next title of the Halo series, "Halo 5: Guardians" to Xbox One on October 27, the sales of the franchise is expected to rise even higher. Master Chief will once again save the world and will bring victory to the tech company.

Microsoft's biggest competitors, Sony and Nintendo, have also planned to release "Uncharted 4" and "The Legend of Zelda" next year but the company trusts that Master Chief will remain unbeatable.
