A new zombie film is taking a new twist to the genre. In the middle of all the undead dramas and bloody horror movies, 'Cooties' is a hilarious alternative that has an unexpected nemesis: tween zombies.
Lionsgate has just released the trailer for the undead comedy starring Elijah Wood and Rainn Wilson. The official synopsis reads:
"From the twisted minds of Leigh Whannell (co-creator of "Saw" and "Insidious") and Ian Brennan (co-creator of "Glee"), "Cooties" is a horror comedy with unexpected laughs and unapologetic thrills. When a cafeteria food virus turns elementary school children into killer zombies, a group of misfit teachers must band together to escape the playground carnage."
The trailer highlights the pains of being in middle school, where even the teachers can get bullied. Things immediately go wrong when kids chow down on evil chicken nuggets and trap the teachers inside their school. Hilarity ensues when the adults fight back to evade the undead tweens.
Wood stars as a substitute teacher named Clint Hadson. Wilson plays Wade Johnson, the physical education instructor.
Wood started out as a child star, appearing in movies like 'Radio Flyer,' 'The Good Son' and 'North.' As an adult, he scored hits with 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' and 'Everything is Illuminated.' He is best known for playing Frodo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings film series.
Wood is producing 'Cooties' with Daniel Noah, Josh C. Waller, Steven Schneider and Tove Christensen.
Wilson has starred in several comedies including 'Galaxy Quest,' 'America's Sweethearts' and 'My Super Ex-Girlfriend.' His most memorable role is that of Dwight Schrute in the TV series 'The Office.'
'Cooties' also stars Alison Pill, Jack McBrayer, Morgan Lily, Jorge Garcia and Leigh Whannell, who co-wrote the screenplay with Ian Brennan. It is directed by Cary Murnion and Jonathan Milott.
Catch 'Cooties' when it invades theaters on September 18, 2015.
