The Missouri 14-year-old teen had no signs of life after CPR was performed for 15 minutes by rescuers and was continued by doctors at SSM St. Joseph Hospital West for 27 minutes. John Smith, 14, and his two friends were walking on an ice-covered lake St. Louise when they fell through it during Martin Luther King Day on Jan. 19.  One was able to hang on ice while the other was able to swim back, but he was left submerged in icy water when the paramedics arrived, NBC News noted.

With the complicated situation the doctors were facing that time, they concluded that the boy's chances for survival were "very grim."

The doctors almost gave up. Dr. Kent Sutterer told KSDK that he was dead for 45 minutes. But something happened along the way after the Missouri teen 'miracle recovery.'

The doctors called John's mother, Joyce Smith to inform her about her son's situation. But as a mother, she didn't lose hope. She prayed so hard and started reciting a prayer.

John Smith, later spoke to CBS St. Louis telling that his survival was a sign from God. The Missouri teen 'miracle recovery' is really unbelievable, but John himself concluded that it's a real miracle that he's alive, and he thanks God he's alive.

"I'm just going to kind of follow what God has in store for me throughout my life," John said.

According to a report of Chicago Tribune in 2008, research suggests that children have better chances of survival in a less than 50-degree Fahrenheit temperature.  It was amazing that a Salt Lake City toddler named Michelle Funk survived death in 1986 after she was submerged in icy water for 66 minutes.  

Funk's case was one of the extreme cases of cold water survival ever recorded after she was revived by the doctors in Utah hospital. It's a miracle that she was back to normal without health problem just like the Missouri teen 'miracle recovery' case.

It was really amazing how the Missouri teen 'miracle recovery' happened. But yes, miracle do happens. We just have to believe just like what happened to the 14-year-old Missouri teen 'Miracle Recovery.'
