Vegan Diet Update: Bill Clinton Tried It and Succeeded

If you think celebrities are the only ones crazy about having their bodies in perfect shape, you are definitely wrong as reports have emerged that former president Bill Clinton has changed from loving McDonald's to loving the vegan diet.

The change reportedly came after the former president had an emergency heart surgery back in 2010. The 67-year-old ditched his love for big macs, barbecued meats, desserts and greasy fried foods and has then followed the vegan diet strictly.

Clinton was overweight when he was a child but has become an avid jogger when he reached college. He also jogged a lot while in the White House but despite running a lot, he still had his health be at risk due to his eating habits.

His diet was not strictly implemented not until 2010 but back in 1993, his wife, Hillary Clinton, has consulted with Dr. Dean Ornish, a doctor whose expertise includes coronary artery disease, and was tasked to check the menus in the White House and the Camp David.

The vegan diet was not implemented back then but Clinton was asked to eat low-sugar, plant-heavy, and a low-fat diet.

However, the former president struggled with his yo-yoing weight gain and weight loss. In 2006, his food has been served and prepared by a resident chef and it was mostly health conscious dishes but still he struggled to keep his weight low and shed off the extra pounds.

The diet was on full blast back in 2011 and it was reportedly working for Clinton. He then lost 20 pounds as he ate only meat, dairy, eggs and very little oil.

It has then been reported now that although Clinton did not always keep up with his diet, "Two of the nation's leading vegan and vegetarian organizations say they're willing to give Clinton a pass since he is mostly adhering to the tenants of the diet."

Clinton is now at 30 pounds lighter than he was when he was president of the country.
